I was rowing through a swamp
Trying to fight my way through a squall
When I was cast upon a log
Flipped over, now my pirogue is gone
That fog was setting hard
The mosquitoes led a chorus of frogs
My hands were going numb
And my feet froze in a soft bed of mud
Then a hand broke through the fog
From towards the bank
I’m beholden to the witch’s hand
‘Cause she tastes so divine
I’ll never sleep again
‘Cause she opened my eyes
Now the reapers on the lake again
Through the fog he’d arrive
I’m talking to the trees again
In them I confide
She buried me beneath these trees
She buried me beneath the Cypress trees
I woke up in a hole
Filled with alligator teeth
And old baby bones
I shook the leaches off
Saw the shadows approach from the dark
They raised my body up
Then the witch began
A dance that silenced the dark
Them incantations rose
With a slither of her tongue
Her eyes drew me close
She buried me beneath these trees
She buried me beneath the Cypress Trees
As I reached for her hand
I clenched to a plume of smoke
Them rats in my head,
They ate all those holes I know
Was she really there?
Was I just alone all along?
Tell a desperate man, into the unknown, carry on
